“Understanding your unique gait cycle is crucial,” says the expert. “While professional fittings are invaluable, you can start with a simple test at home. Simply wet your feet and step on a paper towel. The imprint reveals your arch type and can guide your initial shoe selection. You’re specifically looking to see what kind of arch you have (high, low, or neutral). If you have a high arch, you’ll need to look for shoes with a lot of cushion. For those with no arch, you’re looking for motion-control shoes. And for those with a neutral gait, look for shoes that provide a neutral fit, good cushioning and flexibility.”
